Two sets of pull-back toys sold at variety and dollar stores around New Zealand have been recalled because small parts can come off and children could choke on them. Product Safety New Zealand, which is run by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE), published both recall notices on 2 November.
The supplier, B & C Fashion Limited, is recalling the toys. Product Safety says they were sold at various variety and dollar stores between 4 December 2024 and 9 October 2026. The notices do not list individual shops.
Which toys
Traffic Team toys. These are small toy vehicles: a yellow bus, a white and blue boat, a green van and a red taxi.
Truck Dinosaur toys. These are pull-back dinosaur trucks and diggers in various colours.
For both, the notice says small parts may separate from the toys and become a choking hazard. It warns of a risk of serious injury or death by choking if children swallow small parts.
What the notices say to do
Product Safety's advice is the same for both products:
- Stop using the toys immediately and keep them out of reach of children.
- Return the toys to the place of purchase for a full refund.
The notices list the supplier's contact details. B & C Fashion Limited can be reached on 09 580 3131 or at bncfashion@hotmail.com, and its website is bncfashion.co.nz.
Both notices also point to the mandatory safety standard for children's toys and to MBIE's toy safety guidance for parents.
A second recall: button batteries
An earlier recall, on 23 October, involves a different kind of hazard. Splosh Australia is recalling the Out Of The Blue Sound Monster toy, sold at various retailers between 17 September 2024 and 13 October 2026. The retailers listed on the notice include pharmacies, a Mitre 10 store, a Lotto and post shop and gift shops in towns such as Taupō, Taumarunui and Taihape, so it is worth checking the list on the Product Safety website.
Product Safety says the toy was not tested before it was sold and is missing the required warnings about button or coin batteries. The notice says children are at risk of choking, severe internal burns or death if they swallow batteries or put them inside their bodies, and that serious injury can occur in as little as two hours.
The notice says that if you suspect a child has swallowed a button battery or put one in their nose or ears, you should take them to an emergency department immediately. For this toy, the stated remedy is also to stop using it, keep it away from children and return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
Checking other products
