These standards guide how Asian Insider prepares news, summaries and practical information. They also give readers a way to question our work.
Accuracy and context
Names, dates, figures and claims should be checked against reliable sources. Headlines should reflect the article without exaggerating what the evidence supports. Uncertainty, allegations and opinion should be identified clearly.
Sources and attribution
Original reporting, reporting from another publisher and official announcements should be distinguishable. Summaries must not suggest that Asian Insider conducted an interview or witnessed an event when it did not. Readers should be able to identify the source of significant claims; official guidance should link to the responsible agency.
Translation and practical guides
Translations should preserve the meaning, conditions and exceptions in the original. A summary should be described as a summary rather than a full translation. Publication dates matter: readers should check current official requirements before acting on older information. Guides provide general information and cannot assess an individual case.
AI-assisted work
AI tools may assist with drafting, translation and illustrations. Their output is not a source of evidence. Facts and source material require review before publication. We do not use fabricated quotations or present generated scenes as documentary photographs. An AI-generated illustration should be identified as an illustration and must not imply that it depicts a verified event or an exact likeness of a real person.
Images and reuse
Images should be original, licensed, in the public domain or otherwise authorised for the intended use. Credit and licence conditions should be respected. Altering a photograph with AI does not by itself remove the rights in the original.
Opinion and commercial content
Opinion should be labelled so readers can distinguish it from factual reporting. Paid or sponsored material should be clearly identified. Commercial relationships should not be hidden from readers when they are relevant to the coverage.
Corrections
Factual errors should be corrected. Material changes should include a dated note explaining what changed. Minor spelling and formatting fixes do not usually need a correction note. See Corrections & Feedback for the information to include when raising a concern.
