Diwali, the Festival of Lights, marks light over darkness. Families light diyas, share food and gather with relatives and friends. In Auckland, free public events are still running this weekend at Sylvia Park and at Te Manawa Community Hub in Westgate.
Sylvia Park — display and Saturday dance
Sylvia Park's Celebrate Diwali display is on from 2 to 16 November 2026 on Level 1 outside the LEGO store. The mall says it features a large-scale mandala and LED installation, and information about the five days of Diwali. Viewing is free. Sylvia Park recommends parking in Carpark 2.
Live dance by Chennai City Gangzta (CCG) is scheduled at The Cone, the green area outside Culture Kings:
- Thursday 5 November — 6:45pm and 7:10pm (already held)
- Saturday 7 November — 12pm and 12:30pm
Check Sylvia Park's events page on the day in case times change.
Te Manawa, Westgate — storytime and crafts
Te Manawa Community Hub at 11 Kohuhu Lane, Westgate, has two free Diwali sessions listed by Auckland Council:
- Friday 6 November, 10:30–11am — Diwali storytime (already held)
- Sunday 8 November, 1–3pm — craft session

If you want more than the mall stage
Diwali in Auckland is not only shopping-centre shows. We wrote earlier about how community groups use the festival for culture and belonging beyond the stage. Other recent community festivals on the site include Auckland Korean Day 2026.
Bring cash or a card if you plan to buy food nearby, and allow extra time for parking at Sylvia Park on Saturday afternoon.
