The 14th New Zealand Asia Pacific Film Festival runs in Auckland from 20 to 24 November 2026, organisers say, opening with a red-carpet ceremony at SkyCity Theatre on 20 November.

This year it is called the EC Markets New Zealand Asia Pacific Film Festival after the trading company took the naming rights.

Where and when

The festival is spread over three venues. The opening night is at SkyCity Theatre. China Night and Japan Night, which the festival calls its highlights, are at Event Cinemas Newmarket in Westfield. The film programme screens at the Capitol Cinema, 610 Dominion Road, Balmoral.

The Capitol lists its festival dates as Saturday 21 November to Tuesday 24 November.

Last year's festival had 14 films and more than 600 people at the opening ceremony, organisers say.

Tickets

Organisers say screenings will be charged at a $5 donation, which helps pay for the ticketing system. The festival hasn't published the 2026 film programme or booking details yet.

Who runs it

The festival is hosted by the New Zealand Asia Trust, according to its 2026 registration form. It describes its aim as encouraging multiculturalism and showing the cultures of countries across the Asia-Pacific through film.

Film professionals could register to attend forums, masterclasses and the cultural nights until 15 October. The festival does not cover attendees' costs unless they are invited VIPs.

Keep up

The festival website is apff.org.nz. The Capitol says regular updates will be posted on the festival's Facebook page, and enquiries can go to director@nzapff.org.nz.
