Auckland FC's next home match is the Wellington Phoenix derby at Go Media Stadium on Saturday 7 November, kicking off at 5pm. For families working out the cost of a football outing, the transport arrangement deserves a place beside the match ticket in the plan.

There is also an important complication for South Auckland supporters: part of the southern railway will be closed that weekend. Included transport does not remove the need to allow time for a replacement connection.

What the match ticket covers

The club's 9 October announcement sets out included bus and train travel for all 13 home games this season. Fans show their match ticket when travelling to and from the stadium. Ferry travel is excluded.

For this particular derby, the AT event guide confirms the bus-and-train window starts at 1.30pm and lasts until the end of daily services. The club's current home page also identifies 7 November as its next home game.

Keep the ticket accessible for the journey as well as stadium entry. If one person holds the whole family's tickets, agree how everyone will present them before splitting into separate travelling groups. This is an event-ticket benefit, not an announcement of free public transport for everyone in Auckland that day.

The southern closure needs extra attention

AT's match-specific guide says trains will not run between Pukekohe and Puhinui. Replacement buses are planned between Pukekohe and Manukau, with the remaining train service connecting through the open network.

That means supporters should enter their actual starting point into Journey Planner rather than relying on a normal weekday route to Penrose. Check the return trip too: the best outward connection is not a guarantee of an equally convenient journey after the game.

This matters when several households are meeting at the stadium. Choose a meeting time that allows for the slowest group's route, rather than assuming everyone has a direct train.

Allow for the walk and local detours

AT describes Penrose Station as approximately a 20-minute walk from Go Media Stadium. It also warns that some buses will be diverted after 3.30pm because of road closures around the venue. Ferry passengers pay their usual ferry fare before connecting with the included bus or train journey.

For a first visit, include the station-to-gate walk in your arrival calculation. Families with younger children or relatives who walk slowly may want a less rushed schedule. Check the stadium entry details associated with your ticket rather than treating the nearest station as the finish line.

Make a return plan before kick-off

The club's season announcement provides a broad route guide, but a dated event page is the better starting point when works affect that match. Recheck it closer to 7 November in case arrangements change.

A useful family checklist is simple: confirm the date and kick-off, keep tickets available, check the full route home and agree where to meet if the group becomes separated. Carry a charged phone if your tickets and travel information are digital. Avoid making a tight onward commitment immediately after the final whistle.
